Who Can Apply?

  • You must be a Zimbabwean citizen
  • You must be at least 16 years old
  • You must have a valid birth certificate

If you don't have a birth certificate, you'll need to apply for one first.

Documents Required

  • Birth certificate (original and copy)
  • Proof of parentage — parent's national ID or birth certificate
  • Two passport-size photographs (some offices take photos on-site)
  • If replacing a lost ID: police report and affidavit
Tip: Bring the originals AND photocopies. The Registrar General's Office will keep the copies and return your originals.

How to Apply — Step by Step

Gather Your Documents

Make sure you have your birth certificate and proof of parentage. Get photocopies of everything.

Visit the Registrar General's Office

Go to any Registrar General's office in Zimbabwe. The main office is on Simon Muzenda Street, Harare. District offices are in every provincial capital and major town.

Fill in the Application Form

Complete the ID application form provided at the office. An officer will assist you if needed.

Fingerprinting and Photo

Your fingerprints will be taken electronically. Most offices now take your photo digitally on-site.

Pay the Fee

First-time applications are free. Replacement IDs cost approximately US$2.

Collect Your ID

You will be given a waiting number or receipt. Return after 4-6 weeks to collect your metal ID card.
